Some nice press for one of our shows!
romancerosesandromance:
Wetpaint loves The Bachelor: Romance, Roses, and Romance!
All of the girls — from Britt (Kate Riley), who had already been on a billion other seasons of the franchise, to Mary Anne (Jocelyn DeBoer), who can’t get along with other woman (not even her own daughter) — are fantastic exaggerations of traits any Bachelor fan will...

Know Everything!
improvnonsense:
I get in trouble for saying that because I deliberately say it in a jerk manner. KNOW EVERYTHING. When someone says “I didn’t know the movie my partner was mentioning” I’ll sometimes say “Well, you don’t HAVE to know it but it would be easier if you knew it.”
And then people are like “Why do I have to like Star Wars?”
And I say “Who said anything about Star Wars?”
“All these...

Brooklyn Paper profile on me! →
manvchild:
The Brooklyn Paper did a little article on me and on my show Doug Moe is a Bad Dad. It’s a really nice profile and a funny distillation of a twenty minute conversation. I think Kate did a very good job actually of making sense in a short article of my weird references to improv theory, scrawny dogs and taxi drivers.
I’m not entirely sure that I am “milking” the UCB Theatre (are they...

Advice to new Maude writers and actors
digsyfinallyhasa:
Someone actually did ask for this, so I’m not just on a high horse (I mean, I am literally, not metaphorically; I’m riding a horse right now!). A lot of new people got put on Maude teams late last night and I thought I should share some things I’ve learned after being a writer on Thunder Gulch for two and a half years.
Pay attention. Yes, we are all individual writers, but...

Taught a 101 class recently. Saw them go through this:
First, with every yes-and they did, they were surprised. “Wait, *I’m* your boss?” Literally almost every line was said in a questioning tone.
That went away and then with every yes-and, they were not responsible. “Well, I just got promoted so I don’t know this department. It’s my first day.”
Then that went away and then...

Walk-Ons Vs. Tag-Outs
Some thoughts about walk-ons and tag-outs from @WillHines.
improvnonsense:
Walk-Ons and Tag-Outs are two ways to support a scene from the backline. As coaches, we often group them together when making adjustments “let’s not have any walk-ons or tag-outs for the first beats.” Or “Hey our second beats need more group support — let’s practice doing more tag-outs and walk-ons.” But they have very...

Accept Offers: Conclusion
Final installment of this series - from @WillHines.
improvnonsense:
Leftover thoughts:
The other phrase I’ve heard Delaney use is “culture of agreement.” That’s a great sounding phrase, I like what it inspires in me.
An initiation can be thought of as accepting the offer inherent in the suggestion, or the opening.
Accepting an offer is very often having the character say “no.”
I wrote a...

Accept Offers: When It's Refused
More from @WillHines.
improvnonsense:
Here’s a weird one: You make an offer. The other person quibbles with it. Don’t back down: re-make the same offer and address whatever the person quibbled about.
Improviser 1: If we drill for oil here, we’ll hurt the environment. We should march right into the CEO’s office and just quit.
Improviser 2: This is ExxonMobil. We can’t just march into...
